This rare specimen come from the historic Fengjiashan Mine (Daye Copper Mine) in Daye County, Huangshi, Hubei — one of the few Chinese localities where apophyllite naturally forms over quartz. Here, the apophyllite develops as a delicate tan, white, or clear micro‑crystalline druse, coating the quartz faces in a soft, sparkling layer. In areas where the quartz remains exposed, you can see the clarity and sharpness of the underlying crystals, accented by subtle powdery hematite that adds warmth and character.

•     Fine druzy or micro‑crystalline coatings rather than the blocky, tabular forms seen in Indian apophyllite

HISTORICAL Significance — The 1998 Fengjiashan Discovery
Chinese apophyllite—especially the famous Fengjiashan material—was first documented in the late 1990s, with the earliest well‑known specimens appearing around 1998.

This marks the earliest verified emergence of Chinese apophyllite in the mineral market.
Before the late 1990s:
•     China was known for quartz, calcite, fluorite, and sulfides
•     Apophyllite was not recognized as a Chinese collectible mineral in the Western market

They introduced a small but remarkable suite of pink, white, and tan apophyllite from a skarn‑type deposit — many perched on or encrusting quartz, just like these specimens.
