Black Moonstone is a variety of feldspar formed through slow cooling of molten rock deep within the Earth’s crust. As the mineral crystallizes, thin layers of feldspar stack and intergrow — a structure that later interacts with light to create the schiller effect and the dramatic blue flash seen in this piece.
